When we visited Ilketenju, specifically Olomai where the satellite school is located, the Woreda Education Bureau arranged for us to have mules to ride for the 2 hour trip up the mountain. We decided to stay for two full days so that we could have time to interview some of the farmers & visit the kids in their classrooms. As we trekked up the mountain, all of us were awe struck at the the rolling green hills and beautiful scenery passing by as our mules carried us higher and higher up the mountain. As we got nearer to the village, we could hear human voices in the distance. Little did we know, the entire town was outside waiting for us! When we got into the village, hundreds of the farmers were outside and they all began clapping for us as we walked in! As we headed to the pathway leading to the school, hundreds of schoolchildren were lined up & cheering for us! We were led to a tent with Ethiopian music playing & we were handed a bouquet of flowers! That was the warmest welcome we had ever received!
